1. GUIDELINES FOR ACCURATE DATA ACQUISITION
Follow these guidelines to obtain a good 3D reconstruction:
-
Perform a figure-8 movement as shown in chapter 5.
-
Once acquisition starts, wait for a good GPS signal as shown in chapter 5. The GPS symbol should be at least green.
To assist GPS fixing, with the application camera active, frame surrounding roads or buildings in the survey area. -
Start recording at least 5 meters before the beginning of the survey object/trench.
-
Recordings must be taken with the phone held horizontally (landscape); its inclination must never be parallel to the ground.
Incorrect acquisition: phone pointed directly at the ground
Incorrect acquisition: phone pointed directly at the ground
-
Throughout the entire acquisition process, frame both the survey object and the surrounding areas, holding the phone at a vertical tilt of approx. 30° and trying to stay centered relative to the trench to fully capture the side walls.
Correct acquisition

Correct phone position
Example of correct acquisition
-
Maintain a constant, medium-slow walking pace during the entire acquisition phase.
-
Keep the phone at the same angle, direction, and height throughout the entire acquisition process.
-
Avoid sudden movements and try to maintain a straight path.
If possible, using a gimbal is recommended to help stabilize the operator's movement.
-
Avoid scanning moving people or objects. Ensure the scene is static before starting data acquisition.
-
Do not backtrack; follow straight and linear paths.
-
Avoid acquiring data under insufficient lighting conditions, such as:
- Times of day with low light
- Adverse weather conditions
- Sudden light changes within the same recording
-
Avoid framing your own shadow during acquisition.
-
Never perform fan-shaped recordings (panning by spinning in place while holding the phone still), as shown in the image below:
-
Always point the phone in the same direction.
-
End the acquisition at least 5 meters past the end of the survey object/trench.
-
Example of trajectories to follow:

ACCESS WITHOUT DATA CONNECTION
The first login of the workday must be performed under mobile data/internet coverage.
If after the first login you enter areas with weak or no internet connection, access will remain granted until the end of the day.
4. APP USAGE
Immediately after logging in, the application displays the list of all projects saved on the device.
These are color-coded based on the surveys performed:
-
Grey: No survey performed
-
Purple: Surveys performed by other users
-
Blue: Surveys performed by current user
Color statuses are updated during login under network coverage after acquisitions have been uploaded and processed on the server.
You can search by entering the project name in the "Search" text box.
Tap the
button to filter displayed projects.
Selecting a project opens the map interface, from which you can access the list of acquisitions by pressing the
button.
Trench segments are color-coded based on status:
- Open Trench
- Piping Laid
- Restored / Backfilled
- Asphalt Milling
You can filter displayed segments by status by selecting/deselecting statuses from the bottom bar.
Tap the
button to return to the project list.
Select a trench segment by tapping on it directly on the map.
Select the type of operation you wish to perform:
1. LINE
Selecting Line will prompt the user to select the trench status:
Depending on the selected status, you will be asked to select/enter additional information before starting acquisition.
Below are all possible options and combinations:
Open Trench -> Asphalt/Concrete
[3D SURVEY]
Open Trench -> Paved Areas

2. HDD / Guided Boring (Teleguidata)
Selecting Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) will prompt the user to select before proceeding with acquisition:
- Conduit / pipe type;
- Location (entry or exit point of the pipe).
Regardless of the pipe type, you must select whether it is the entry or exit point before starting survey acquisition.
3. Joint Pit
Selecting Joint Pit will prompt the user to choose the operation to perform:
Depending on the selected operation, you will be prompted for further details before starting acquisition.

Selecting Manhole / Pit will prompt the user to enter the excavation depth:
5. STARTING DATA ACQUISITION
-
Wait a few seconds for the GPS indicator signal to turn Green or White.
>
>
>
While waiting, to facilitate GPS position fix:
- Walk near the trench framing surrounding structures, buildings, and roads with the camera;
- Perform a figure-8 motion as shown in the video below.Position the phone horizontally to start acquisition.
-
The total number of acquired images is shown at the top. The counter increasing indicates active recording.
6. QUALITY CONTROL
Upon completing data acquisition, quality checks are performed on the newly completed survey.
The user is prompted to review the captured point cloud.
Using pinch-to-zoom (2 fingers) and panning, verify that the point cloud covers the entire area of interest.
Using the
button, you can inspect the photo gallery of captured images.
Perform the following checks on the images:
- - Ensure proper lighting conditions
- - Ensure photos are not pointing directly at the ground
- - Ensure no obstructive elements were blocking the lens when shot
Tap the Back button to return to the point cloud view.
After performing these manual checks, tap Next to view the automated Quality Check results generated by the application:
Approve the Quality Check to save the project/LCL session and return to Main View, or Reject to discard the recording and repeat it.
7. SERVER UPLOAD
AUTOMATIC UPLOAD
The application checks for new surveys to send to the server across 3 daily time windows:
- 06:00 / 08:00
- 12:00 / 14:00
- 17:00 / 19:00
If pending surveys are found, and the user has sufficient network coverage and adequate remaining battery level, the app will execute an automatic upload.
MANUAL UPLOAD
From the Main View, tap the
button to view the list of acquisitions stored on the device for the selected project.
Tapping the three dots button (
) next to a session name opens the context menu:
Tap Upload to upload the survey data to the server.
Once completed, the icon
confirms successful upload.
Tap Photos to access the image gallery for that survey session.
The last image in the gallery contains a screenshot of the Quality Check approved during acquisition, allowing consultation at any time.
If attempting to upload a survey that failed Quality Check, a confirmation dialog will be displayed to the user.
Uploads can also be initiated from the project list filtered by "PROJECTS WITH DATA TO UPLOAD" as shown in chapter 3.
WARNING:
Before uploading, ensure you have a stable Wi-Fi or mobile data connection.
CHANGE STATUS
For line surveys, tap Change status to modify the survey status.
You will be presented with input fields and options relevant to the newly selected status.
As an example, changing line status from "open trench with piping" to "open trench" is shown below:
